Tata Strive, the skill development initiative of Tata Group, has introduced a free cybersecurity course tailored for engineering graduates. The primary objective of this course is to provide students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in the field of cybersecurity.
The demand for cybersecurity professionals is on the rise, and according to a report by Cybersecurity Ventures, the global cybersecurity workforce needs to expand by 3.5 million by 2021. This presents a significant opportunity for engineering graduates aspiring to build a career in the dynamic field of cybersecurity.
Cybersecurity involves safeguarding computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from malicious attacks. It encompasses various categories, including network security, application security, information security, operational security, disaster recovery, business continuity, and end-user training.
Network security focuses on protecting computer networks from intruders, while application security aims to safeguard software and devices from threats. Information security ensures the integrity and confidentiality of data at rest and in transit, and operational security addresses processes and solutions for handling and protecting data stocks. Disaster recovery and business continuity plans define how organizations respond to cybersecurity incidents, ensuring the restoration of operations and information to pre-incident levels.
End-user training is crucial in addressing the human factor in cybersecurity, as users can inadvertently introduce threats into secure systems. This includes educating users on recognizing and avoiding phishing scams, managing email attachments, and following security best practices.
Cybersecurity plays a pivotal role in protecting critical infrastructure, personal information, and financial assets. Individuals can take proactive steps, such as using secure passwords, being cautious about online information sharing, keeping software up to date, employing firewall and antivirus software, and staying vigilant against phishing scams.
The Tata Strive cybersecurity course, designed for engineering graduates with knowledge of basic programming languages and computer networks, spans a duration of 15 weeks. The curriculum covers a range of topics, including security policies and procedures, employee training on best practices, investment in security solutions, and regular safety assessments.
This free cybersecurity course is a collaborative effort between Tata Strive, the Data Security Council of India, and Tata Communications. It aims to equip engineering graduates with the skills needed to navigate the evolving landscape of technology, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity in securing data, assets, and resources in the digital age.
